Vick Photography is in the running for Photography of the Year for 2010! Last year we were humbled and honored to be voted by you and the readers of Minnesota Bride as the Best Photographer for 2009. Exciting things are in store for us here at The Living Room in 2010 and we're excited to have the best cheerleaders in the world in you.

To say thank you and to commemorate our 2-Year Anniversary at The Living Room Studios, we will be hosting a special Gallery Night that will feature all new images from our recent Central American travels as well as a special 50% off canvas sale either from our walls or your own wedding. So I have a couple fun annoucments to make. Over the holidays I decided to join the club and propose the Lady of my dreams, Janelle Nelson. Life is simply way better with her than without her, and I am a better man because of her love and grace. (That is the mushy part...sorry readers).

The next day, I was asked to appear on Twin Cities Live and give some photography tips to the public. Needless to say, the producers caught wind of my proposal, wanted photos, and well....you will have to watch to hear how I proposed. Enjoy a little peak into my life. Thank you for all your encouragement!

.We are in the new MN Bride!. July 14th 2008

With much anticipation, the new "MN Bride Best Of 2008" comes out this week and guess who's in it? We were pleasantly surprised to learn that one of our favorite destination weddings of the year can be found on page 161. Besides that, many of our friends have chosen to feature some of our work from the new season in their ads. Check out Ambiente's hot new look! (Best wedding coordinator of 2008) After being a finalist for "MN Bride Best Of" last year, it was fun to see that the momentum carried into this season and the industry really embracing our work. For this year, our good friend Noah Wolf was up for the nomination, go Noah! However our new friends, the talented Studio 306 came away with the award.

Calhoun Beach Club was a buzz over the weekend with some of the top professionals in the wedding industry. In the nicest way possible, this swanky MN Bride event can remind one of a class reunion with an funky edge every year. As many of us stay incredibly busy serving clients and working on our art, we barely get to see each other but once a year. New web sties were exchanged, new inspirations for what is influencing our art were shared and we got acquainted with some new faces. We enjoyed grazing our way through a fantastic spread by D'amico that perfectly complemented the new look of Calhoun. Wow! Merina and I dragged our significant others along and to their surprise they enjoyed the event as much as we did. As you can see from these Traveling Photo Booth images, yeah, there was definitely something in the air!

Today we is our big television debut! We got a call from Channel 5 that got our name from Minnesota Bride as a good candidate to bring on the show to talk about photography tips. Tips that we have for aspiring photographers include:

Say the Word: Use the word "Horray!" instead of "Cheese" to get a group of people to smile. It lights up their entire face.
Angle Matters: As we see life eye to eye, try shooting from down on the ground for architecture and from an elevated area for groups for a slimming effect.
Sun Shot: Be daring and shoot into the sun as opposed to away from it. It gets rid of squints and the sun on the back has a nice warm glow.

Today marks a NEW HORIZON. I have so much to be thankful for as I watch this dream of five years unfold. For those of your unfamiliar with the story on how we have been blessed with such a space, let me share!
Back in April, I photographed the wedding of an incredible couple. At the wedding, the father of the bride approached me and asked me "Say, do you have enough artwork to fill 1,000 square feet? I have always dreamed of having a gallery next door to my office and I own this space..." Of all the places in the Twin Cities, the space he was referring to happened to be located a mere six blocks from my house; I drive past it every day. After a few month of talks, he agreed to lease it to me and even help with the build-out (there were many interested parties) because he loved my heart and believed in our art. I was blown away. We have been under construction since Thanksgiving.

The vision for the Living Room Studios came just before this wedding. I can never remember a vision quite as vivid in my entire life, and can only explain it as the Lord. I awoke randomly one night at 4:00am and a flood of ideas took over my brain and heart and I started to write for an hour straight. Before this, I had been struggling trying to combine my passions of community, my love for people's wedding story, and my drive to challenge those around me creatively. This studio is a celebration of this vision and marks a big leap of faith in many areas of my life.

The Living Room Studios is a creative and hosting space for fellow artists and friends to come together and challenge each other in life and in our work. On top of that, this space allows me the ability to tell stories of people and culture from my travels around the world. The Living Room is also a place to encourage local artists in their gifts, frequently opening up the doors for local artists to showcase their art or tell of philanthropic work or needs across the globe. The name "Living Room" is especially fitting, as the relationships that are forged and stories and laughs that are shared in someone's living room are some of the most special moments in life. The four artists that share this space all work independently but are tethered around some common goals and passions. All four wedding professionals affiliated with the studio share in this passion to come alongside each other and our clients, while encouraging each other in our art. Meet them!
